In 2000, Oro Valley bought land at 660 W. Naranja Drive (between Naranja Drive and Tangerine Road) from the State Land Trust intending to build a multigenerational community recreation facility for all residents to enjoy. This property adjoins land that was purchased by the town in 1996, and, together, the two parcels form the 213 acres known as the Naranja Town Site.
The first master plan for the 213-acre park was completed by Stantec Consulting in November 2002, after an interactive 14-month data-gathering program that included a Web-based survey, three community workshops, six meetings with 38 stakeholders representing the users of the park, 17 public meetings and monthly meetings with a large task force appointed by the Town Council. The Master Plan map represents the results of the planning process and includes all Master Plan features and phases. The community ccenter, aquatics center, and music pavilion are not included in the current bond question.
